The IX Competitiveness Forum of the Americas 2015 is the most important annual event of competitiveness in the region. This year the event has been organised by the Government of Guatemala through the National Competitiveness Program, the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala. The 2014 Forum was previously held in Trinidad and hosted by the Government of Trinidad.
This year St. Lucia has been represented at the event through the attendance of the Honorable Minister of Commerce, Emma Hyppolite, Executive Director of the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council Fiona Hinkson and Deputy Chief Economist within the Department of Finance, Janai Leonce.
All aspects of the work being done in St. Lucia by both the private and public sectors in enhancing competitiveness is being highlighted at the forum. A presentation made by The Honorable Minister of Commerce on behalf of St. Lucia was well received, whilst the NCPC collected evidence of initiatives from both the public and private sectors. Some of these initiatives included: work on the ease of doing business, SLHTA Tourism Enhancement Fund, ICT enhancements projects, Small Business Development Network, and the Commercial Division of the Court.
